Unless you’re mounting the TVto a wall, installation is relatively painless. And even if you do opt for the wall-mounted setup, you’ll be able to complete the project on your own. Should you need an installer, their job will be quick and cheap. However, if you’re completely obsessed with getting the highest resolution possible, only TVs can offer you 8K resolution— 8K projectors for the home are still very rare.
High brightness drives up projector costs in a hurry, though. Most projectors in the $2,000 range, for instance, produce somewhere between 1,500 to 3,000 lumens. Because projectors bounce light off a screen, their actual brightness winds up being much lower once it hits your eyes. However, don't expect it to be the best surface for a projector.

The EF-12's light is created by Epson's "MicroLaser Array Projection Technology." Yep, laser beams, which deliver a brighter picture than LED-based models like the Nebula and GS50. For the last five years the TCL 6-Series has been our favorite TV for the money, and the 2022 version -- also known as the R655 series -- is no exception. This TV has an excellent image thanks tomini-LED techand well-implementedfull-array local dimmingthat helps it run circles around just about any other TV at this price. It improves upon the previousR635 serieswith improved gaming extras and a new center-mount stand that you can elevate to make room for a soundbar, although the new 85-inch size has standard legs. And finally, the Roku TV operating system is our hands-down favorite.
And with brightness that can go up to 1,500 Lumens, it works well in a bright room as well. The C2 represents the pinnacle of picture quality at a price that's admittedly high, but not too crazy. Itbeats any non-OLED TVon this list, including the Samsung QN90B below, with its perfect black levels, unbeatable contrast and superb off-angle viewing. It also has superb gaming features, making it the perfect companion to anXbox Series X or S, PlayStation 5or both. This modern projector produces a bright picture with great contrast and lifelike color accuracy. It's also one of the only comparable models with vertical lens shift, which makes setup a little easier. It supports most media players, gaming consoles, PCs, Macs, and mobile devices with input options such as HDMI, USB, and more. Plus, the projector offers a low input lag of 16ms for immersive gaming.
This budget projector can throw a ton of light, its color wheel produces accurate colors and has great detail. The contrast ratio isn't great, but it's pretty average among 4K resolution projectors in this price range. And that price really is the UHD35's biggest selling point. This 4K UHD projector offers great picture quality for only a few hundred dollars over the best 1080p projectors. It doesn't offer lens shift or much in the way of a zoom, but if it fits in your room it's a great way to get a 4K projector on a budget. We wouldn't put this in the "cheap projector" bucket, but the BenQ HT2050A is definitely the best video projector you can get for the money.

Take a look at our lists of the best TVs and the best home projectors, and you’ll see a wide range of prices from around $700 for budget models to more than $3,000 for the higher-end picks. That being said, paying more for a TV can often get you more features that projectors can’t quite offer. High-end models have beautiful OLED or QLED screens, excellent color accuracy, and high levels of built-in brightness, along with built-in speakers that are better than what most projectors can offer.

The Xgimi Halo Plus is a relatively small 1080p projector with a 2.5-hour battery and surprisingly powerful speakers. It has Android TV built-in, so streaming is far easier than with many other portables. It performs well for a portable projector, but costs about the same as the BenQ HT2050A, which performs far better. But for regular movie nights far from an outlet, it works great.Read our Xgimi Halo Plus review. The EF-12 is a small, highly portable projector that looks a lot like the Anker Nebula Pro and the BenQ GS50, but it fits a slightly different niche. It's easy to tote and doubles as a Bluetooth speaker, but unlike those two it can't run off of a battery -- it requires AC power.
